He is a student and just 25-year-old, but he might spend the next 14 years of his life in jail because of a stolen BlackBerry phone.
Jerry Osaze was allegedly in possession of a Blackberry phone valued at N27,000.
Unfortunately for Jerry, the phone was a stolen one and he has now been charged with the possession of a stolen BlackBerry phone before an Upper Area Court in Gudu, Abuja.
According to a Nigerian Bulletin report, the prosecutor, ASP Malik Taiwo, informed the court that Police investigation, following a May 13 report by Ms Ngozi Kalu of Arab Road, Abuja, at the Durumi Police Station that someone broke into her house and stole some household items and a blackberry cell phone, revealed the robbery suspect, one Zion Dansy, who sold the phone to Osaze.
Taiwo said the offence contravened section 317 of the Penal Code.
Jerry pleaded not-guilty to the charges, but stares a jail term of up to 14 years, with or without a fine, if convicted.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Umar Kagarko granted him bail set at N50,000 and a surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case has been adjourned to June 19.
