Director-General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, has said that the Chinese were allegedly flooding Nigeria with substandard goods.
“We have paraded a number of people, especially Chinese, over substandard and fake products,” the SON boss said in a programme monitored in Lagos.
He added: “If you don’t know, we now pay people for information on substandard and fake products.”
He also hinted that the requirement of the certificate of Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme, SONCAP, for Nigeria-bound goods may inadvertently be causing diversion of the country’s shipments to the seaports of neighbouring countries, including Cotonou Port, Benin; Lome Port, Togo; Accra Port, Ghana and Abidjan Port, Cote d’Ivoire.
